EDEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR PRESENTATION
JANUARY 2014
The 2013 recipient of the Eden Chamber of Commerce,
Citizen of the Year Award is widely known and
respected, not only in Eden but throughout the county.
When you first meet this young person, you are
immediately struck by a warm smile and a calm,
confident demeanor.
If you are fortunate enough to develop a working
relationship with him via civic organizations or church
activities you soon learn that although he is a quiet
unassuming person, he does not shy away from making
his ideas and opinions known.
He is always interested in making Eden and all of
Rockingham County a better place to live, to work and to
raise our families. During any discussion, he is able to
bring to the table side issues that may impact an
organization's mission, that deal with financial challenge
or the possible human impact that could be created by
potential decisions. His example of strong, thoughtful
leadership has made significant contributions to a number
of organizations.
I met him! 10 years ago after an invitation to join the Eden
Salvation Anny Advisory Board was extended. He
immediately became immersed in all of this
organization's projects. These include the feeding
programs, social work, Christmas activities and youth
programs. He has worked tirelessly on fundraising in
support of the Salvation Army. He has served as board
Chairman for the past 5 years. He became a member of
the County Salvation Army Advisory Board in 2009 and
has served as the Chairman of the Property Committee
since that time.
He became a United Way Board member in 2008 and was
asked to serve as campaign chair the very next year.
After a successful campaign, he was chosen as president elect
in 20I0 and served as President the following
year.
He was very active in the R. Duane Best Auditorium seat
replacement project, serving as a board member from
2009-2011.
He is active in all of Rockingham County's Chambers of
Commerce serving on the Eden Board of Directors during
2010-12 and on the Reidsville Chamber's Nomination
Committee in 2011.
He and his family attend First Presbyterian Church in
Eden where he has served as a deacon, an elder and a
choir member.
In summary, this year's recipient's integrity is beyond
reproach. His compassion and caring spirit is
demonstrated by the lengths that he will go to find food
for the hungry or the perfect bicycle [or a child at
Christmas. His thoughtful problem solving and consensus
building skills have significantly benefited many groups
facing serious challenges.
This fine human being is a loving husband, father, son,
brother and friend and has dedicated much of his life to
the service to others.
It is my honor and privilege to announce that the 2013
Citizen of the Year is my treasured friend, Charlie Hall.
